Agents of the Environmental Group of the Mediation and Coexistence Unit (UMEC) of the Local Police of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria have arrested a 43-year-old woman for having allegedly abandoned four dogs in a home in terrible hygienic-sanitary conditions , without food or water, which could have caused the death of one of the animals.
The events occurred in the Jinámar neighborhood to where local police officers went after alerting several neighbors to the strong odor emanating from the interior of a house where they had not seen its owner or the four dogs she had for a long time. , as reported by the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria police force in a press release. This led agents from the UMEC Environmental Group of the Local Police to check the smell and hear the howling of a dog, for which they decided to access the house, having to use Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) due to the serious state of unsanitary conditions found inside.
This “quick” police intervention, they point out, made it possible to rescue three alive dogs from the interior that suffered from an evident state of malnutrition, also finding the body of a fourth dog that had already died. The police verified that the animals did not have water or food, and two of the dogs were also tied up without freedom of movement, “which, together with the serious hygienic-sanitary state of the home, constituted a serious risk to their lives that would have ended up causing death of a dog found dead.
After the investigation carried out, the authorship of the events has been attributed to a 43-year-old woman, owner of the four dogs and who had recently left the home where she lived with the animals, leaving them to their fate inside the house without water or food.
In this case, the police report attributes an alleged crime of animal abuse with the aggravating circumstance of having caused the death of one of the dogs, having to face sentences of a year and a half in prison, as well as the prohibition to keep animals for up to four years. Other crimes are also attributed to him for the abandonment of the other three dogs rescued alive and in an advanced state of malnutrition that could be saved thanks to the notice of the neighbors and the actions of the Local Police.
The alleged perpetrator of the events has been released until the trial is held, which will be held when the Investigating Court of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria determines that it has taken charge of the case.
