The Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, received her Spanish counterpart, Pedro Sánchez, with honors yesterday. As usual on these occasions, the Spanish flag was displayed at the Chigi Palace, the seat of the Executive and where a meeting focused on the European Union was held. They also posed smiling for the photographers, reviewed the troops and listened to both national anthems.

In addition, as usual on these occasions, no questions were allowed, to the disappointment of the Spanish informants. Among the chroniclers there was a lot of expectation for a first bilateral meeting – they should have seen each other a few months ago in Alicante, but the appointment was postponed due to a flu from the Italian leader – uncomfortable due to the obvious ideological differences. The leader of the Brothers of Italy, who in recent months has softened her image, especially abroad, does not want slip ups. “As always,” said Italian government sources, there were only going to be statements, without the possibility of being questioned by journalists.

Previously, at least a couple of questions were allowed, but Meloni has decided to answer journalists in press conferences after his councils of ministers or after European summits, and not when he receives foreign leaders. The same thing happened when the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Mark Rutte, or Israel, Beniamin Netanyahu, visited Rome.
