The National Police has arrested an alleged member of a criminal group who had a crop with 793 marijuana plants in Maçanet de la Selva. According to a statement, a second suspect managed to flee after ramming the car and injuring two officers who were trying to intercept him.
His accomplice was arrested when he wanted to get into the vehicle, also to escape. They attribute crimes against public health, electricity fraud and an attack against an authority agent, because he resisted arrest. After being brought to justice, he is provisionally released pending trial.
The seized marijuana was ready to be harvested and the electricity bill was more than 64,000 euros. According to the National Police in a statement, thanks to citizen collaboration they learned that, in a house in Maçanet de la Selva, there was a constant bustle of people and vehicles carrying out suspicious activities. In addition, they also detected problems due to electrical overloads that could indicate that the light was punctured.
The police investigation determined that an alleged criminal group was growing marijuana inside the home, using fertilizer to accelerate the growth of the plants and increase the percentage of THC. When the agents entered and searched the home, they did not find anyone inside. For this reason, they set up a police device to locate the suspects. Thus, they saw a vehicle traveling at high speed with two individuals on board, heading towards the house. After seeing them enter the house, the agents approached, identified themselves and stopped them. The two men fled.
One of them rammed the officers with the car, injuring two police officers. With the car, he ignored orders to stop and took off at high speed. During the escape, he collided with a vehicle that he had parked on the street, displacing it more than ten meters and thus hindering the pursuit. They were able to intercept and arrest the second suspect when he tried to get into the car. Then, he struggled with the officers and one of the police officers, who managed to restrain him, was injured.
The operation has resulted in the confiscation of the plants. The investigation indicates that the defrauded energy amounts to 64,207.43 euros. The detainee, who is in the country in an irregular situation, is free with precautionary measures while awaiting trial.
