The residents of Sants and La Bordeta are fed up with the noise generated by a tourist helicopter that flies over Barcelona and have already filed a complaint with the City Council, who has confirmed that the company has the necessary license and permission from Aena to carry out the activity.
According to Betevé, the helicopter operates from the port’s heliport and makes departures every day of the week. Although, according to neighbors, the largest number of flights take place during the weekend.
“We hear the helicopter every quarter of an hour. And on a Sunday or Saturday, when there is total silence in these residential areas like Sants or La Bordeta, you can hear a lot. Once nothing happens, but the device makes up to six passes each time it flies over us,” explains one of those affected.
The neighbors have asked the ombudsman, David Bondia, to act. In a meeting held this week, Bondia explained that he will prepare a report addressed to the management of the Sants-Montjuïc district in which he will insist on the need to find solutions.
It is not the first time that a helicopter for tourist purposes angers the residents of Sants. In 2008, they explain, they experienced a similar situation with an operator who was forced to modify the route at the request of the City Council.
In 2015, social networks were also filled with complaints from other areas of Barcelona such as Sant Andreu and Nou Barris, which warned that a device had flown over the city at midnight. The air force confirmed that it was also a tourist helicopter.
