A 58-year-old man, a resident of Barcelona’s Poblenou, is brain dead while waiting for his organs to be donated, after receiving a beating on Tuesday afternoon from a man who minutes before stole his mobile phone. The Mossos d’Esquadra homicide group is in charge of an absolutely priority investigation at the moment. The alleged murderer would be a man who, according to what the victim was able to tell in the first moments to the first patrols that acted, approached him on a bicycle.
The events have shocked Poblenou and the district of Sant Martí, due to the absolutely disproportionate violence with which the assailant acted. According to the first information verified by La Vanguardia with sources familiar with the investigation, the victim arrived at the parking lot of his home at around six in the afternoon on Tuesday. He had the window down and while he was waiting for the parking lot door to open, a man on a bicycle approached and in a flash stole the mobile phone that the victim had on his knees.
The victim did not think twice and started a chase in his bicycle car. When he was level with him, she got out of the car, which she left running, hitting a building, and lunged at the thief. The offender first punched the victim several times in the head, who fell to the ground, where he received a kick, also in the head. The offender dropped the cell phone and fled the scene.
The victim was able to speak with the first district police officers who approached the scene. But she was beginning to not remember what had happened, a memory loss that she attributed to the kick to the head. The man was taken by ambulance to the Mar hospital, where he began to worsen, until his brain death this past morning.
