This week, in these same pages, reference was made to the unanimous recognition of the work that the Public Health Unit of the Mossos d’Esquadra of Barcelona has been carrying out in recent months. A group specialized in crimes against drug trafficking, which was born in the Ciutat Vella police station, where it is still located, which until recently worked side by side with the Barcelona Urban Police, and which has powers throughout the city. This morning, a police member of the unit shot down an alleged drug trafficker during a surveillance of a flat that investigators suspected was growing marijuana. The individual tried to run over the police during the escape and the police fired a shot after shouting “stop police” several times.
The event occurred at number 22 Can Basseda street in the Sarrià San Gervasi district, as sources familiar with the investigation have confirmed to La Vanguardia. A group of police officers from that unit were carrying out surveillance of a property when a vehicle arrived with an occupant. The police gave him the act, the individual ignored the police order and the police shot at the vehicle when the suspect tried to attack the officers. A shot that stopped the man’s escape, who was detained and taken to a hospital to heal the wound. Inside the property, the police found 30 kilos of marijuana.
The homicide group of the Mossos d’Esquadra of Barcelona has taken charge of the investigation, of the shooting. Every time a uniformed officer uses his firearm, the incident must be accompanied by a report detailing the circumstances of the shooting and its justification. Sources familiar with the investigation assured this Wednesday that the Mossa’s action was “absolutely justified and motivated” given the suspect’s attempt to attack the police officers.
The public health unit assumes the investigation for the public health crime.
