A new copper theft in Rodalies cuts traffic on the R13 and R14 between Les Borges Blanques and Lleida

Train circulation on the R13 and R14 was cut off this Tuesday between Lleida and Les Borges Blanques early in the morning due to a new copper theft, as reported by Renfe. The theft occurred at dawn and affected the service during the first hours. Around 8:30 a.m. traffic was restored.

This morning there is some “specific” delay on the R4, affected by Sunday’s copper theft in Montcada Bifurcació. According to the planned alternative plan, the R1 recovers its usual route this Tuesday. The circulation of trains on the R3, R4 Nord, R4 Sud, R7 and R12 Rodalies continues to be affected by the copper theft that occurred this Sunday, Renfe and Adif report in separate statements.

-R3: service between Puigcerdà (Girona) and Montcada-Ripollet (Barcelona) and service by road to the Barcelona station of Fabra i Puig. Travelers directed to the Metro.

On Monday night, the Civil Protection of the Generalitat deactivated the alert of the Railway Emergency Plan of Catalonia (Ferrocat) that had been initiated by the incident this Sunday after an improvement in the situation in the service.

The Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, did not rule out sabotage in Rodalies, while the Generalitat described it as a “conspiracy theory” and again criticized the lack of investment in Catalonia’s railway network.

Last Sunday, the theft of a copper cable caused an electrical surge that generally affected the entire Rodalies service, causing problems that may not be completely resolved for two months and that will have a cost of 15 million euros
