Last Sunday, a member of the team of the Minister for Equality, Irene Montero, was the protagonist of a dispute with the operators of the Lavacolla airport, in Santiago de Compostela, for which he ended up being detained and sleeping one night in jail.
Apparently, José Andrés del Reino Cárdenas, who holds the position of area coordinator of the Montero Cabinet by free designation, was with his partner last Sunday, at 10:00 p.m., about to board when he refused to pay a supplement that the airline required, according to La Voz de Galicia.
The incident began when the flight attendants at the airline counter informed Del Reino that the luggage he was carrying exceeded the permitted weight. The conversation with the flight attendants escalated and they decided to call the police to intervene.
An agent arrived and asked Del Reino Cárdenas to identify himself. Request to which Cárdenas again refused. La Voz de Galicia, points out in his information that, while the agent was trying to identify the man and his partner was recording with his mobile, he caught his hand in a door that caused a concussion.
It was then that the airport agent asked the police station for reinforcements, who, upon arrival, arrested José Andrés del Reino Cárdenas and took him to the police station. There he was finally identified and spent the night in the dungeon.
The next day he was released, without charges and filing a complaint against the agents who intervened in his arrest.
For its part, the SUP police union has advanced its intention to launch legal actions for the injuries suffered by the National Police agent while carrying out his work, reports El debate. The union has expressed its “deepest indignation” at what happened and has informed the media that its lawyer already has in his possession the injury report of the injured agent and the power of attorney “to appear on Monday in the case and promote legal action ».
‘La Voz de Galicia’ affirms that the Ministry of Equality assures that it was not aware of the incident and, in any case, that it is a career civil servant and not a senior official.
José Andrés del Reino Cárdenas has been listed as area coordinator of the Ministry of Equality since January 15, 2021 and receives a specific supplement for his work of 21,490.84 euros.
