A 63-year-old man died after choking while eating a sandwich in a bar in Aldaia (Valencia), as reported by the Emergency Information and Coordination Center. this tuesday morning
Choking in Spain became the leading cause of unnatural death in 2022, according to the INE. A total of 18,330 deaths occurred due to external causes (not disease), with drowning leading, with a total of 4,102 cases, followed by suicides (4,097), accidental falls (3,707) and traffic accidents (1,790).
The emergency services received a notice this Tuesday around 11 a.m. warning of a man choking and mobilized a SAMU unit and another from SVB. When the Basic Life Support vehicle arrived, the man was unconscious and the health team began to practice basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation, which the SAMU medical team continued with advanced techniques but there was no response and they could only confirm the man’s death.
