He desecrated graves to steal valuable metal objects. They did it at least seven times in the Almoradí cemetery, Alicante. The Civil Guard, within the framework of the National Plan against copper theft, has carried out operation Mezar23, arresting a man for stealing on several occasions in the Almoradí cemetery. The detainee, along with recovered objects, has been placed at the disposal of the Court of Instruction No. 3 of Orihuela, which has ordered his release with precautionary measures.
At the end of December last year, the Almoradí City Council filed a complaint with the Civil Guard for a series of robberies that occurred during the same month in a warehouse and a cleaning room of the municipal cemetery. The perpetrators stole metal objects, caused damage to a niche and seized two rosaries inside a pantheon, even going so far as to stir up the bone remains deposited at the site.
In response to the community’s concern, the Almoradí Main Post Investigation Area began operation Mezar23 with the objective of arresting the person responsible for these criminal acts.
During the visual inspection, the investigators managed to recover some of the objects stolen a few meters from the cemetery. Analyzing the modus operandi, they obtained information that suggested that the person responsible was transporting the objects on foot, which led to focusing suspicions on someone who lived nearby.
With a detailed description of the stolen objects, inspections were carried out in scrap yards and recycling centers in Almoradí and its surroundings. In a local establishment, the agents recovered the objects stolen from the warehouse, valued at about 300 euros. In addition, they obtained the data of the person who had sold these effects, identifying a 43-year-old neighbor with a history of crimes against property.
On January 5, after proving the commission of seven crimes of robbery with force and two against religious feelings, the agents proceeded to arrest the suspect. The individual, along with the seized effects, was placed at the disposal of the Court of Instruction No. 3 of Orihuela, which ordered his release with the imposition of precautionary measures.
This operation, framed within the National Plan against copper theft, has allowed the Civil Guard to restore peace to the residents of Almoradí, dissipating the social alarm generated by the criminal acts of this individual.
