A “historic moment” for the Palestinians; “parade of stupidities” for Israel

This Wednesday’s announcement of the joint recognition of the Palestinian State by Spain, Norway and Ireland, which will materialize on May 28, generated radically opposite reactions in Palestine and Israel.

While the Secretary General of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), Hussein al-Sheikh, reacted to the recognition by saying that we are living in “historic moments in which the free world triumphs,” the Israeli Foreign Minister, Israel Katz called the joint measure a “parade of stupidity.”

Al-Sheikh assured that the decision of Spain, Norway and Ireland comes “after long decades of Palestinian national struggle, suffering, pain, racism, death, oppression, abuse and destruction to which the people of Palestine has been subjected.”

For his part, the president of the Palestinian National Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, also applauded the joint announcement this Wednesday and stated that it is a contribution to the materialization of the two-state solution in order to end the conflict with Israel.

“This decision is the culmination of these positions and is consistent with the principles of international law, which recognizes the right of peoples to free themselves from colonialism and oppression and to live with freedom, justice and independence,” Abas said, according to the Palestinian agency. WAFA news.

Hamas also welcomed the position of the three European countries. In a statement, the Palestinian extremist organization indicated that the recognition of the Palestinian State is an “important step” to establish “the right to its land” with the aim of having “Jerusalem as its capital.” The Palestinian party, whose military arm fights against Israel in Gaza, where 35,000 Gazans have already died, called on other countries to “support the cause of the Palestinian people for liberation and independence” and to “end the Zionist occupation.” .

Meanwhile, Israel reacted from the opposite side, calling its ambassadors in Madrid, Dublin and Oslo for consultations. “Ireland and Norway intend to send a message to the Palestinians and the entire world today: terrorism is worth it,” Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz said in a statement before Spain’s announcement was confirmed. “We are not deterred by the Irish-Norwegian parade of nonsense, we are determined to achieve our objectives: to restore the security of our citizens with the elimination of Hamas and the return of the abductees. There are no fairer objectives than these,” Katz added.

Following the recognition of the Palestinian State announced by Pedro Sánchez, Israel also called the Israeli ambassador to Spain, Rodica Radian-Gordon, for consultations and summoned the Spanish ambassador, Ana Solomon. “They have decided to award a gold medal to the Hamas murderers,” Katz denounced in another statement, in which she specified that the video about the Hamas terrorist attacks of October 7 will be shown to Solomon.
