The Mossos d’Esquadra investigate the assault at the Costa Este nightclub in Calella de Palafrugell (Baix Empordà). The events occurred during the early hours of this Saturday, when a group of young people began to throw construction fences, glass bottles and other blunt objects against the local security personnel who had not allowed them access to the premises.

According to Mossos sources, the notice was received at four in the morning and proceedings were opened for a “riot fight.” Now, the images from security cameras and those that circulate on the internet are being reviewed to locate and identify those involved. At the moment, there are no detainees and no one has been injured.

The fight at the Costa Este nightclub in Calella de Palafrugell has begun, according to municipal sources, after the young people were denied entry into the nightclub. They have begun to throw objects at the nightclub’s security personnel who, as can be seen in a video circulating on the internet, have ended up barricading themselves inside the premises and have closed access to protect themselves.

Although there are still no detainees and the Mossos are still investigating the assault, municipal sources revealed that it is suspected that the fight was started by a group of young people from the town with a history of similar conflicts.

To prevent incidents of the same style, this Saturday night, a patrol of the Local Police of the municipality and one of the Mossos will be installed all night in front of the disco. In addition, this is expected to be repeated in the coming weekends to avoid further conflicts.

This is not the first time that the East Coast has been involved in an incident. In 2021, for example, the City Council took to court an illegal party that brought together some 400 people in its parking lot and last year, a man was injured after being attacked with a broken glass.

On Tuesday, the nightclub reached an agreement with the City Council to put an end to the problems in the parking lot and the noise in the premises. Specifically, it was agreed to install sound limiters that, when necessary, the Local Police can activate remotely. And also improve lighting and reinforce security in the parking lot.
