A 63-year-old man, who was subject to a European arrest warrant issued by a French court, was arrested a few days ago by the Civil Guard as the alleged perpetrator of an intentional forest fire between the towns of Pano and Panillo (province of Huesa). After his arrest, it was also found that he has numerous records for crimes such as rape and sexual abuse of minors, armed robbery or kidnapping, among others.

The events in question date back to the early hours of April 24. According to Benemérita, 112 received a call in which an individual warned “in a nervous and upset tone” about the disappearance of his dog, while threatening to “set fire to the mountain” in the vicinity of Pano if he was not found. .

Hours later, 8 fire outbreaks were detected in the aforementioned nuclei, which were extinguished around 1:00 p.m. by several fire crews deployed there.

At the same time, the Civil Guard deployed a large operation in which 32 agents of the body participated, with Nature Protection patrols (Paprona), Greim personnel of Huesca, Boltaña and Benasque, the Huesca Air Unit, agents of the Organic Unit of the Judicial Police of Huesca and three dogs for searching and locating people.

After three days of searching, the agents located the alleged perpetrator hiding in the mountains on April 26, for which they arrested him as the alleged perpetrator of the crime of intentional forest fire.

Later, after the corresponding police efforts, they confirmed that said individual was hiding under a false identity and that he was subject to a European Arrest Warrant (OED) from the Judicial Court of Paris, as well as several other searches by other European judicial bodies. Likewise, they found out that he had an extensive criminal record for crimes such as rape and sexual abuse of minors, armed robberies, violence, kidnapping and concealment of theft, among others.

Initially, the detainee was presented on April 29 before the Monzón duty judge, who ordered his release on charges of the crime of forest fire. However, he could not return to the street, since he was again detained by agents of the Organic Unit of the Judicial Police by virtue of arrest warrants. After taking his statement, he entered the Zuera prison (Zaragoza) awaiting his extradition to France.
