We are Catllar, a “non-partisan” candidacy, did not hide its cards during the campaign prior to 28-M. They arose from the anger on the part of the residents of the 28 urbanizations of the municipality to try to remedy from within the City Council the “negligence, insecurity and abandonment” that they claim have suffered endemically. With about 4,000 of the 5,000 residents spread out from the urban core, the list of urbanizations clearly won the elections despite having no political experience and few resources for the campaign.
Despite their “historic” victory, with 26% of the votes and four of the eleven councilors, they were two councilors short of an absolute majority. They assure that they have tried to form a government, with meetings with the three parties so far in opposition, but an agreement between the four municipal groups that have achieved representation (PSC, MO1-te pel Catllar, Junts and ERC) has left them out. The agreement will involve three different mayors in four years.
“The future government is an insult to the citizens,” David Rodrigo, mayor of the urbanizations, criticized yesterday. The municipalist list denounced this Monday in a public appearance that “all the fish was sold before they began to speak”, for which they speak of “non-negotiations with the aim of excluding them from a possible government pact”.
The disappointment of seeing themselves without the command of the City Council, from where they wanted to promote policies to improve, above all, security, cleanliness or the public thoroughfare of the 28 urbanizations, contrasts with the joy unleashed on the night of the elections; Euphoric messages from their mayor ran through WhatsApp groups, addressing the neighbors. “We have made history, we are delighted with life; It has not been easy, we have had to fight with many things, also against slander, insults and harassment, “denounced Rodrigo (Somos Catllar). “We will not sell our souls to the devil, we have not come to sit in the chair at any price,” he warned.
The pact between the four parties that lost the elections will make Jordi Ruiz, candidate of Junts, third force, the new mayor as of Saturday; He will be followed a few months later by Xavier Canadell (MO1-te pel Catllar), and the socialist Alba López, the second most voted force, who will hold the rod for the last 21 months of his mandate.
Joan Morlà (ERC), acting mayor, has also joined the new government as the sole representative of the Republicans, after losing two mayors compared to 2019.
“From the opposition we will work for all the interests of the municipality. We are your neighbors”, they assure in a message addressed to their voters. “We will make a constructive opposition, very aware of security, robberies and occupations; public transport, waste management, gray water purification and cleaning of the security zone with the forests”, summed up the mayor of the urbanizations yesterday.
