A footballer arrested in Palma for leaving a rival unconscious with a headbutt

The Local Police of Palma have arrested a soccer player for attacking a rival, whom he head-butted and left unconscious during an official match played on the municipal field in the Son Roca neighborhood.

As reported this Wednesday by the Police in a statement, the events occurred around 7:00 p.m. last Saturday, when they received a call alerting about an attack at a sports venue.

Upon arriving at the scene, the agents were summoned by a player from the visiting team, who reported the attack that his teammate had suffered, who was unconscious on the grass. The police immediately requested a medical ambulance, which arrived at the scene a few minutes later and took care of the injured man.

The alleged attacker, a 20-year-old Spaniard, appeared before the police shortly after and offered his version of the events. According to him, after a foul that led to his expulsion from the game, a player from the opposing team made a provocative comment and he responded by headbutting him.

For his part, the victim stated that, after suffering a foul from his rival, and without saying a word, he hit him with a headbutt in the face that made him lose consciousness for a few moments and caused significant bleeding.

The version offered by the injured man was corroborated by some witnesses, including the referee, although the latter only saw the attack and not the previous moments.

The victim was evacuated to a hospital due to the severity of his injuries and a day later he filed a complaint. The agents determined that the attack was a violent action unrelated to the game and proceeded to arrest the 20-year-old young man.

Once the urgent prevention procedures were completed, the report and the detainee were transferred to the National Police.
