A fireball flies over the sky of Andalusia at 65,000 kilometers per hour

An impressive fireball has flown over part of the skies of Andalusia at 85,000 kilometers per hour in the early hours of this Sunday. This fireball has been collected by the detectors that the Smart project operates in the observatories of Calar Alto in Almería, La Hita in Toledo, Huelva, Seville and Sierra Nevada and La Sagra in the province of Granada, as well as by two exterior cameras of the Calar Alto Observatory has also been able to witness this beautiful event.

The analysis carried out by the Principal Investigator of the SMART Project, Professor José María Madiedo (Institute of Astrophysics of Andalusia IAA-CSIC), has determined that this bolide has had an asteroidal origin, as detailed by the Calar Alto Observatory in a statement.

A rock detached from an asteroid entered our atmosphere at a speed of 65,000 kilometers per hour. The luminous part of the event began at an altitude of 90 kilometers just above the dividing line of the provinces of Malaga and Granada. The object then moved in a northeasterly direction, crossing the entire province of Granada and ending at an altitude of 25 kilometers already above the south of the province of Jaén.
