The Rural Agents and the Local Police have denounced a driver who was driving through Port de la Selva (Alt Empordà) and who threw a lit cigarette butt out of the window. It is important to remember that a lit cigarette butt was what caused a large forest fire between Port de la Selva and Llançà in 2021, which burned hundreds of hectares, a good part of them in the Cap de Creus Natural Park.

From the Rural Agents they ask for “a lot of caution” and remember that throwing lit butts is completely prohibited and sanctioned. In fact, this Tuesday, July 18, a small forest fire broke out near the C-31 as it passed through Calonge (Baix Empordà).

Fortunately, the flames did not reach the Gavarres massif, which is very close to the area. Thanks to the quick action of the firefighters, who were able to stop the fire quickly, only about 300 square meters of vegetation burned.

A short time later, the Rural Agents reported that the cause of the fire had been a cigarette butt thrown from a car window.
