I have captured for La Vanguardia Readers’ Photos this snapshot of the door to elegance represented by the beautiful and sophisticated gardens of Santa Clotilde in Lloret de Mar, in the La Selva region.
They were designed in the style of the old Italian Renaissance gardens by Nicolau Rubió i Tudurí, when admiration for his master in the art of gardening, Forestier, was still in full swing.
The gardens are located in a place of great beauty. On a cliff with impressive views over the sea. They are a sample of the spirit that formed the Noucentista movement in Catalonia.
In 1919, the Marquis of Roviralta commissioned the project from the then young landscape designer and architect Rubió i Tudurí. The land that the gardens currently occupy was dedicated to planting vineyards and the marquis acquired them until reaching its current area of ??26,830 m2.
The gardens are located between Cala Boadella and Fenals beach. In this way, it is considered that the Mediterranean becomes another participant in the great plant scenography that Rubió and Tudurí manage to create.
