The singer Santi Balmes announced this Thursday the publication on October 11 of a new album by his band, Love of Lesbian, which he has also defined as “a tribute to friendship” and which will include a collaboration with the also Catalan Rigoberta Bandini, among other collaborations.

The song, called Contradiction, will be the first preview of the album this Friday and can be heard on digital platforms. As is common now in the promotion and release of albums, it will be the first in a series of singles that will be released over the coming months.

In an interview on RAC1, Balmes announced that the band will soon take an indefinite break after the release of the new album and the subsequent tour, although he added that this stop on the road will not be before 2026. On that occasion, he justified the pause —without setting any specific date—, in exhaustion and the need to look for new motivations. “We are family. It is very difficult for there to be a definitive goodbye, but there is a moment when you think you have reached the limit,” he stressed to the Catalan station.

Returning to the collaboration with the author of the popular Mama, Balmes has highlighted to the EFE agency the good harmony that both have had: “You can always admire a person and think that you would like to collaborate with them, but that song may never arrive In this case, it arrived. From the first moment I thought that Rigoberta could fit with its tonality and also because of the character of the theme. I think I was not wrong.

Without yet revealing the title of the album, which they will communicate this Friday on their social networks, the Love of Lesbian vocalist has advanced some of the keys to the work that will take over from V.E.H.N. (Epic Journey to Nowhere) (2021). “One of the leimotivs of this album is the tribute to friendship, or in other words, to human relationships of all kinds, not only loving, and which constitute that emotional epicenter to which you turn again and again in bad moments “, has declared.

This publication will coincide with the 25th anniversary of Love of Lesbian’s first album, Microscopic Movies (1999), during which time the band has released nine studio albums in total to establish itself as one of the great references of national alternative pop-rock.

“I think that our objectives have been mutating over time. Sometimes we have had to resign ourselves to being more realistic, but in most cases, expectations have exceeded our ambitions. It has been a journey, especially emotional, that has changed our entire existence,” he noted about this time of activity.

The announcement also comes in parallel with, coinciding with Sant Jordi, the promotion of Balmes’ book Un día en mi corazón. This is his first non-fiction book, in which he captures “an ordinary day” in his life through his favorite songs, with personal anecdotes, curious facts, political reflections and encounters with the idols of him.
