A 22-year-old British tourist died this Friday in Eivissa in the first case of deadly ‘balconing’ this summer on the Islands. The young man was on vacation with some friends at a hotel in the Ibizan municipality of Sant Josep. First thing in the morning, he was on the terrace of a third floor from which he has rushed for reasons that are now being investigated.
Several ambulances with medical teams have urgently traveled to the hotel establishment, but the young man was already in cardiorespiratory arrest and nothing could be done for his life. The impact has been so serious that the death of the young man has occurred almost at the same moment of the impact.
The emergency services received the notice from the hotel itself at 10:50 this morning. Everything indicates that the young man was with some friends on the terrace of the establishment, but the reasons for which he has rushed are unknown. This is something that the investigators must clarify when they take a statement from the young people who were with the victim,
The Civil Guard has also appeared at the accident site and has taken over the investigation. Throughout the morning, investigations have been carried out at the hotel and in the vicinity of the accident area in order to certify how the events occurred.
While the fall of this young man was being investigated, the Ibiza Civil Guard reported the discovery of another tourist in a hotel room in Ibiza. Also in this case, an investigation has been opened to determine the causes of death, but everything indicates that it could be an overdose because various drugs have been found in the room.
The cases of balconing are frequent in the Balearic Islands during the summer months and the one registered in Eivissa is the first with a fatality this season. Most of these accidents occur because tourists try to pass from one room to another through the balconies, with serious risk to their integrity. On many occasions there is also an added component of alcohol consumption that helps this type of accident to occur.
