A 58-year-old mountaineer died this Saturday while mountaineering in the Aragonese Pyrenees after falling about 200 meters.

As reported by the Civil Guard, the fatal victim is a resident of Barcelona who fell while taking a route along the north face of Pic d’Aspe, in the municipality of Aísa, and hit several stones. The warning was made at 5:08 p.m. by a 57-year-old companion, also from Barcelona, ??who was unharmed.

The Civil Guard has activated the Special Mountain Intervention Rescue Group (GREIM) with an air unit from Jaca and a health worker. They located the fallen climber while they were flying over the area and, upon approaching, they found her dead.

They have evacuated the deceased to Jaca to transfer him to the Institute of Legal Medicine of Huesca while the companion has been transported to Cadanchú.
