A 39-year-old woman dies and a child is in critical condition after a head-on collision in Lleida

A woman has died, a minor is in critical condition and another is in less serious condition as a result of the head-on collision that occurred yesterday afternoon on the National Highway-II, near Lleida.

According to information from the Servei Català de Trànsit, the accident took place at 6:22 p.m. at kilometer 457 of the aforementioned highway, where, for reasons that are now being investigated, two cars collided head-on.

As a result of the impact, the driver of one of the cars died. This is A.A.R, 39 years old and a resident of the Lleida town of Alcarràs.

Two minors were traveling in the car with the deceased. One of them was left in critical condition and the other in less serious condition, and both were transferred to Vall d’Hebron hospital in Barcelona.

Two people were traveling in the other car, who were left with less serious injuries and who were taken to the Arnau de Vilanova hospital, in Lleida.

As a result of the accident, the National Highway-II was closed to traffic in both directions of travel until ten at night.

Various patrols of the Mossos d’Esquadra, four crews of the Generalitat Firefighters, and members of the Medical Emergency System (SEM) with five ambulances, two helicopters and personnel from the psychological support service traveled to the scene of the accident.

After yesterday’s accident, 36 people have died in traffic accidents on the interurban roads of Catalonia so far this year.
