Two teenagers were killed this Thursday in a shooting that occurred at a school in the city of Bryansk, in western Russia. One of the deceased is the shooter, a 14-year-old student who broke into the school with a hunting shotgun and shot at her classmates.

According to the Investigative Committee, which in Russia investigates the most serious crimes and has taken charge of this case, the incident also left five people injured.

Alexei Kuznetsov, assistant to the Russian Health Minister, said that all of them had been hospitalized and one was in serious condition. “One of the victims is already undergoing surgery,” he added.

The shooting began on the morning of December 7, when an eighth-grade student arrived to her class. “The girl came to school with a repeating shotgun, she entered the classroom and opened fire on her classmates during a biology lesson,” said a source close to the Ministry of the Interior. As a result of the shooting, a 13-year-old student in the class was killed.

After the shooting, the attacker committed suicide, the Ministry added. The Telegram channel Baza published that her name was Alina and she was 14 years old.

National deputy Alexander Jinshtéin reported that the young woman was carrying a “Bekas-3” shotgun, popular among hunters and owned by her father. He would have managed to enter her center by camouflaging her in a paper tube.

“One of the reasons for the tragedy at the Bryansk school is the negligence in the custody of firearms. It must be strictly in a safe, to which only the immediate owner should have access. That is one of the inherent conditions to the granting of a permit to store and carry weapons,” the deputy wrote.

“According to one version, the incident occurred as a result of a conflict with his classmates,” a source from the Instruction Committee told the RBK newspaper. After what happened, investigators questioned the security company that services the school and summoned the shooter’s father.
