In commemoration of International Women’s Day, the 8M Assembly has called a demonstration this Friday, March 8, with the main objective of highlighting the precariousness and inequalities that women still face in contemporary society. Natàlia Cámara, spokesperson for the communication commission of said entity, expressed the determination to “fill the streets” with an unprecedented demonstration of strength and solidarity.
The motto of this year’s feminist strike: ‘Women, lesbians and trans people together against precariousness, borders and genocides’. One of the new features this year is the anti-ableist demonstration, led by the Anti-ableist Feminist Bloc, which will make sure to offer wheelchairs to facilitate the participation of people with disabilities.

Additionally, union spokesperson Carme Garrido emphasized the importance of feminism being inclusive and stressed that “feminism will either be anti-ableist or it will not be.” Vania Arana, spokesperson for the Kellys Catalunya union, denounced wage inequalities in the labor market, while Paula Santos (Regularización Now) and Karuna (Sindillar) demanded the end of the immigration law.
The demonstration is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m. in the Jardinets de Gràcia, will travel along Passeig de Gràcia until it reaches the Arc de Triomf, where a final act with speeches will be held.
The traffic restrictions will begin at 5:30 p.m. and will affect several important roads in the city, according to Barcelona City Council. Passeig de Gràcia in its entirety, including the Jardinets section, as well as Plaza Catalunya on the side of the road towards Besòs and Ronda Sant Pere, will be the main areas affected by the restrictions.
It is estimated that the event will conclude around 10:00 p.m. at the intersection of Paseo Sant Joan and Avenida Vilanova. In addition, additional restrictions will be carried out on vehicular circulation on Avenida Diagonal between Muntaner and Bruc, as well as on Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes between Aribau and Passeig de Gràcia.
Regarding traffic detours, the following measures will be implemented: on Passeig de Gràcia towards Llobregat, detours will be carried out via Pau Claris; while in the direction of Besòs, traffic will be diverted through Balmes and Rambla Catalunya. On Diagonal avenue, towards Besòs, the detours will be made through Muntaner and Balmes; and in the direction of Llobregat, by Bruc and Pau Claris.
For its part, on Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, towards Besòs, vehicles will be diverted through Aribau and Balmes; and in the direction of Llobregat, by Pau Claris. In Plaza Catalunya, traffic will be diverted towards Fontanella; and in the Sant Pere ring road, you will head towards the Sant Joan and Roger de Flor promenade. These detours will be carried out in order to guarantee the flow of traffic and safety during the development of the demonstration.
