In the town of Guardiola de Berguedà there is a large mosaic made with 64,000 tiles by a school group that shows the entrance to the Cadí tunnel. It is very curious and it is worth reading the poster that explains why it was made.

The mural, which we can see in Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia, was created during the 1988-1989 school year with the help of Joan Arocas (painter) and Joan Ribera (photographer). And it is a tribute to the inauguration of the Cadí tunnel. A fountain and a bench were built next to it.

The mosaic is 44 square meters, made up of these 64,000 pieces of 2.5 centimeters each. It represents the southern mouth of the Cadí tunnel, inaugurated on October 29, 1984.

The Cadí tunnel is an important communication route that linked Alt Berguedà with the regions of Cerdanya, Andorra and France.

Its construction coincided with the crisis in the textile and mining sectors. It is currently an important road axis through which the C-16 and the E-9 pass. It links Barcelona with Paris on the side of the Pyrenees and Toulouse.

The tunnel is 5,026 meters long, with two traffic lanes and a central security zone of two meters. It is equipped with modern control and security technologies. It is one of the safest in Europe. The southern mouth is at an altitude of 1,175 meters. It crosses the Moixeró below the Peñas Altas.
