2 dead after military jet crashes near airport at Alabama

The aircraft landed in a mountainous area close to the Montgomery Regional Airport, based on airport executive manager Marshall Taggart.

The T-38 coach aircraft has been assigned to the 14th Flying Training Wing, based from Columbus Air Force Base in Mississippi, the Air Force said in a statement.

The airport has been advised of the crash soon after 5 p.m. local time.

Airport officials didn’t understand what caused the deadly accident.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with all the families of the two pilots involved in this event,” explained Col. Seth Graham, the 14th Flying Training Wing commander, in a statement Friday night. “There are not any words which could explain the despair that accompanies the reduction of our teammates.”

The titles of these pilots are now being withheld, pending next of kin notifications.

A security evaluation board will be exploring, the Air Force stated.
