Young white and rosé wines perfect for hot days, cooler reds, organic wines, suitable for vegans and with minimal intervention, innovative products to bring wine closer to new consumers, a wine for new winelovers, another with a spectacular artisanal presentation inspired by in the work of the Galician redeiras, wines from vineyards or ancestral traditions, or a couple of classic wines updated are some of the many and varied novelties of this summer.
We travel through a good part of the most outstanding Spanish wine region, from Penedès to Priorat passing through Rioja, Ribera Duero, Rías Baixas, Jerez, Rueda, Somontano or Navarra. They are novelties for all pockets. Fresher wines, unusual whites, smoky flavors, old vintages, distillates championed by celebrities, ancestral elaborations and “fresqueo” are some of the trends that will mark what we will drink this year, according to the online sales platform Bodeboca.
For consumption at home; that is to say, not in bars or restaurants, in the months of July and August barely 14.8% of the total wine drunk in the year is consumed and its sales peak is in December (a single month, 13, 3%). This is stated by the director of the Spanish Wine Market Observatory, Rafael del Rey. In statements to the Comer La Vanguardia channel, he adds that “what does grow a lot in summer is the consumption of wine-based beverages (sangrías and tintos de verano, for example) which between July and August account for 33.5% of the total anus”. In sparkling wines, more than a third of everything that is drunk is in December, but June, July and August are also good months (6.9%, 6% and 6.1% respectively, which adds up to 19% in three months). . Rafael del Rey also points out that “by color, white is not consumed much more than red in summer (something yes), but it is above all rosé wine that has some of its best months in July and August, along with Christmas ”.
For its part, the denomination of Jerez has launched this summer a service manual for its wines. They affirm that “Jerez wines are the best companions for summer evenings due to their versatility and their enjoyment character”. And they recommend serving them at the right temperature, selecting the glasses well, playing with the pairings and even preparing cocktails. During the summer, weather conditions can cause wines to spoil quickly, speeding up the aging process and altering their characteristics. That is why, according to the Insolity brand of the distributor Primeras Marcas, “having a wine storage solution becomes essential for wine lovers who want to enjoy their bottles in optimal conditions.”
And they offer keys and advice so that consumers and collectors can keep their wines in the best conditions: keep the wine at the right temperature, which ranges between 14°C and 16°C, while the right humidity is around the 70%; store the bottles in the correct position, in a horizontal position, and avoid direct light. Once a bottle is opened, the wine slowly begins to go off as it reacts with the air. Closing the bottle with the cork and placing it in the refrigerator can help to preserve it for some time. But when we need to keep the wine in good condition for longer, there are some simple systems that keep the wine isolated from the air and prolong its life. This is the case of vacuum systems, based on a pump that removes the air from inside the bottle, or gas systems, which inject a totally innocuous gas that expels the air from the bottle.
