The two progressive associations of judges and prosecutors asked this Monday for the resignation of the president of the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ), Vicente Guilarte, and the rest of the members that make up the plenary session to force the renewal of the body, which has expired for five years.
“This institutional abnormality represents an obvious detriment to society and the judicial organization,” both Judges and Judges for Democracy (JJpD) and the Progressive Union of Prosecutors (UPF) stated in a joint statement. These associations regret that the PP refuses to renew the body, and remember that the Supreme Court is experiencing more and more vacancies, in addition to the majority of presidencies of hearings and superior courts of justice, which are in office, being paralyzed. “Those who go to the judiciary to litigate, legal professionals, and society in general, suffer the harm of this situation,” they emphasize. These two associations directly blame the party led by Alberto Núñez Feijóo for making “numerous excuses” for refusing to negotiate an agreement with the PSOE, since three-fifths of Congress is needed to appoint the twenty members that make up the body of judges. .
“It seems to us that those who remain members of the CGPJ contribute decisively to maintaining this situation that violates the Constitution and the organic law of the Judiciary,” they emphasize.
