The La Planeta room was once again the stage for the unique Catalan Dramaturgy Tournament organized by Temporada Alta, which reached the finals yesterday. In the thirteenth edition of this story, playwrights Frank Baier, Pau Coya, Aleix Fauró, Isis Martín, Gemma Rodríguez and Amparo Vayà participated, but only two made it to the grand final.

One was Sergio Baos, with the text For everything that unites us, which is a political satire on the interior of a right-wing party through the point of view of the treasurer and his candidate; and the other Lali Álvarez Garriga, with the work A clock in the window, which tells the story of an accidental encounter between a wallet and a left-wing woman with an anarchist couple who become entangled in a political debate.

Coincidence wanted both works to have a high political component. In the case of For everything that unites us, Carles Martínez and Ivan Benet played two men, an alpha male of the right and another who would like to be one, who unravel the miseries of a right-wing party. And in the other piece, A clock in the window, read by Diana Gómez and Júlia Truyol, progressivism questions the system, while the trust between the two women grows and the relationship explores surprising avenues.

Both works flow with rhythm and interest and aroused the sympathy of the audience, which came to the end quite divided. But A clock in the window, by Lali Álvarez Garriga, was finally the proposal that prevailed, with its political story and at times meta-theatrical, and took home the prize of a dinner at El Celler de Can Roca. The winner declared that she imagines the piece more like a short film.

If you ever enter the Dramaturgy Competition, cross your fingers that Júlia Truyol is one of the actresses who reads your text and you will already have half a victory in your pocket, as happened two years ago with Niñata, by Bárbara Mestanza. This without detracting from the interpretive work of Diana Gómez, Carles Martínez and Ivan Benet, who defended their texts by creating characters out of nothing, based on a quick reading that very afternoon.

For the occasion, the presenter, Marta Aran, wore a lavish Hercules costume. And one last curiosity: both works were filled with the exclamation joder, which proved not to be decisive for the final victory.

Earlier, yesterday at noon, the grand finale of the fifth edition of the Dramaturgy Tournament for high schools organized by the Fundació La Ciutat Invisible as part of A Tempo, Arts and Training, of Temporada Alta, was also held, and which present the playwrights Xavi Buxeda and Lara Díez Quintanilla. Almost 200 students participated, from high schools in Girona and Salt. The attendees decided that the winning play was Monkeys, which tells the story of a blind date where the boy has an obsessive disorder with monkeys. The text was presented by the students of the La Salle high school, and was interpreted by Mel Salvatierra and Francesc Cuéllar.

The current edition of Temporada Alta is coming to an end, but there are still some pearls to enjoy on the festival’s stages. This Wednesday, for example, it’s Albert Serra’s turn, who signed this year’s promotional short. The unique filmmaker has put together a concert with the Molforts group, regular authors of the soundtracks for his films. The Salt theater will host a performance with songs by the legendary German actress and musician Ingrid Caven and the French writer Jean-Jacques Schuhl. Spaces for all tastes at the autumn festival.
