Agustín Santos will be the one who fully assumes Sumar’s intervention during the appearance of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, in Congress, to explain the Government’s position regarding the situation in Gaza, Israel and the Middle East.

The commitment of the leader of the plurinational group, Yolanda Díaz, for the party’s spokesperson in the Foreign Affairs Commission of Congress, implies that the general secretary of Podemos and deputy, Ione Belarra, will not speak during this parliamentary debate despite the fact that He had expressly requested it last week, in order to convey his vision of a “planned genocide” in the face of whose “war crimes”, he understands, the Government has maintained a lukewarm and insufficient reaction.

Podemos stated that they hoped that this would be their first intervention by a member of their party in the Plenary Session of Congress since the last elections of 23J, given that to date they had not taken the floor in the chamber despite the fact that deputies from other forces policies had done so.

Sumar has positively valued the brave position of the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, towards Israel and transferring the Government of this country, highlighting that the death of civilians in Gaza is “unbearable”, although he has requested more measures such as the embargo on sales of weapons with this country among other measures.

However, Belarra has maintained a more belligerent position towards Sánchez and the socialist wing of the Executive, stating that the Chief Executive had moved with a “minimal reproach” to Israel for the social and political pressure, together with the demand to break diplomatic relations with the Executive of Benjamin Netanyahu.

The relationship between Sumar and Podemos has been marked by tension for months and the disagreement worsened after the departure of the purple ones from the coalition Executive.

In addition, they were also left out of the shortlist of deputy spokespersons for the group and Podemos has proclaimed in its new political strategy that it will act with full autonomy and will not dissolve into Sumar.

Recently, Belarra has highlighted that her party is going to assert its voice and its votes in Congress, warning the PSOE that, in the face of the general budgets, it will have to negotiate the support of the five purple deputies.
