Subscriptions to streaming platforms will reach 1.79 billion by 2029, according to a study by Digital TV Research. Considering that, according to the World Population Perspectives report, the number of inhabitants of the Earth is about 8,045 million, by the end of the decade 22% of people will enjoy this service.

Among these powers, the United States is in third place, with 336 million inhabitants. The sixth position is for Nigeria, where 222 million people live. Half of these nations have very solid audiovisual industries. In fact, Bollywood, in India; Hollywood, in the United States, and Nollywood, in Nigeria, are the main centers of production, in exactly that order.

None of these screen giants, each with their cultural, thematic, aesthetic and economic peculiarities, has neglected the market for services called SVOD, for the English acronym: subscription video on demand. So, the strength and growth of these countries favors an increase in platform clients, both global and territorial.

This is one of the reasons why, in the final stretch of the decade, there will be more subscriptions of this type in the world than cars, vans, buses and trucks on the asphalt. Specifically, the media research team at Digital TV Research predicts that these subscriptions will increase by 321 million between this year, 2023, and 2029. The biggest boost will come from the United States, with approximately 30 million .

Then, on the list of experts, there are Brazil, with 23 million, and India, with 27 million. Half a dozen American companies will accumulate 946 million paid users then, compared to 751 million today. The leader will be Netflix, which will add 44 million customers, bringing it close to 300 million. And it will be followed by Amazon Prime Video (296 million) and Disney (192 million).

Digital TV Research specialists point out that this latest entertainment multinational will make less progress than its competitors in Asia because its investments in this territory will be relatively small. Apple TV, Paramount and HBO Max subscribers will not reach 190 million six seasons from now. In addition, the total of new on-demand viewers in China will exceed 390 million, as concluded by Digital TV Research’s principal analyst, Simon Murray.
