Julia Roberts is in full promotion of the new film, Dejar el mundo atrás, with which she abandons the romance genre, as it is an apocalyptic thriller, which premieres on Netflix on Friday. In an interview with The Graham Norton Show, broadcast by the BBC, the actress noted that the film Pretty Woman, released in 1990, will continue to accompany her wherever she goes.
She again gave details about the romantic comedy she starred with Richard Gere. “It was supposed to be a much darker film called $3,000,” he revealed on the British show. This title referred to the price that Edward’s character, played by Gere, had to pay Vivian, the prostitute who played the actress, to spend a night with him. The initial version certainly told a darker and rawer plot than the romantic comedy that eventually made it to the big screen.
Julia Roberts, 56, went on to explain that the reality behind the original script had nothing to do with the fairy tale it ended up being. “Vivian was a drug addict and the end of the film was that he ended up abandoning her in a street, throwing her the money and driving away”, he revealed. For the good of the film, this ending did not take root, as the production company went bankrupt and the film disappeared until it was rescued by Disney to turn it into Pretty Woman.
In conversation with Norton, Roberts also talked about his next project. Dejar el mundo atrás centers on a family vacation to Long Island that takes an unexpected turn after a cyberattack disables all of their devices, followed by the appearance of two strangers at the front door of the vacation home. “The director sent me the book and said I would love it and read it as soon as I could, but I couldn’t because I was scared and when it got dark I had to leave away,” he admitted.
