The world of film and television has lost one of its most charismatic stars. Itziar Castro, known for her talent and magnetic presence both on screen and off, has passed away at the young age of 46. The news has shocked fans and colleagues alike, leaving an irreplaceable void in the artistic landscape. Castro’s family has issued a statement asking for respect and privacy in these difficult times. According to the representation agency, although the cause of her death has not been confirmed, everything points to heart failure.

Castro’s life changed unexpectedly during confinement due to the coronavirus pandemic. By participating in an artistic challenge, choosing to be Botero’s muse, the Catalan actress unknowingly revealed her personal struggle against lipedema, a disease unknown until then to the actress and which she was detected by a very attentive follower of hers.

Lipedema, closely linked to female hormonal changes, usually develops at crucial times such as puberty, pregnancy and menopause. It has also been observed in women who take estrogenic contraceptives or have suffered from hormone-dependent tumors, with genetics playing a crucial role.

Although there is no cure for lipedema, there are treatments that offer relief, such as Water-Jet Assisted Liposuction. This complex surgical technique has been shown to be effective in reducing symptoms and improving quality of life.

Castro, in his own words, highlighted the need for clinical intervention to mitigate the effects of this disease: “It can only be removed by doing a clinical reduction, that is, operating.”

Furthermore, the interpreter went on to relate how the illness had affected her work: “While filming an episode of Vis a Vis I had to stop because my legs swelled and hurt, I had to go to the emergency room, there they told me it was “I had an infection and they gave me antibiotics. But now I know it was lipedema, which causes this type of infection and can affect the lymphatic system and make it worse.”
