Whoever wants to spend New Year’s Eve at home can now choose which popular faces can accompany them to say goodbye to 2023 and welcome 2024. The television networks have already chosen who will be the celebrities who will broadcast the chimes: some protagonists repeat in this traditional date, others return after being away for a while and there are also those who make their debut.

Antena 3 repeats the formula to maintain the audience leadership taken from RTVE two years ago: in the last bells it also set a historical record in screen share by registering 39%, with more than 6.6 million viewers. Cristina Pedroche and Alberto Chicote are once again a couple for the eighth time (the tenth for both of them separately) and, once again, much of the attention will focus on what dress Pedroche, who became the mother of a girl named in July, will wear. Laia.

Atresmedia’s second channel, La Sexta, also repeats its protagonists: for the sixth consecutive time, Cristina Pardo will be the presenter of the chimes and at her side will be Dani Mateo for the third year.

RTVE’s La 1 proposal this year involves recovering an old acquaintance, Ramón García, and betting on new blood, Ana Mena. In the case of the presenter, who this year has successfully returned to the network by resurrecting the Grand Prix contest after 18 years of absence, this will be his fifteenth bell on La 1 (the last one was in 2018). For the singer and actress Ana Mena it will mean her debut on the public channel’s chimes, which are broadcast from Madrid’s Puerta del Sol.

Last year, RTVE trusted Ana Obregón and Los Morancos, who could not regain the lost leadership and remained in second position: 4,469,000 viewers and 26.1% share. Obregón already announced a few weeks ago that this year he would give up ringing the bells because he had another priority: being with her granddaughter Ana Sandra.

But the great novelty and surprise of the broadcast of the bells by RTVE is that there will be the presence of the soccer player Jennifer Hermoso, world champion with the Spanish team, “to celebrate the triumphs of 2023 and toast to the equality of looking to 2024”, as announced by the chain.

The footballer has been one of the great protagonists of the year after, after winning the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand last August, she was kissed on the lips during the celebration events by the then president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, Luis Rubiales. The player reported the leader, who had already been suspended by FIFA, to the Prosecutor’s Office. The incidents sparked a movement of solidarity towards the players of the Spanish team under the motto

Curiously, Hermoso will not be the only world champion to eat the grapes on television. Olga Carmona, scorer of the goal that gave Spain the victory in the final against England, will be in charge, together with the presenter and comedian Manu Sánchez, of ringing the bell on Canal Sur from the Plaza del Arenal in Jerez de la Frontera.

In Mediaset, a popular face from Telecinco and another from Cuatro, Jesús Calleja and Marta Flich, will take over from Risto Mejide and Mariló Montero. The presenter of Big Brother VIP and the adventurer from Planeta Calleja are chosen to drink the twelve grapes on all the group’s channels, this time, from Seville. The objective: to surpass last year’s historical minimum when Telecinco had an average of just under 800,000 viewers and a 4.7% share.

And in Catalonia, the influencer Laura Escanes and the singer Miki Núñez will be in charge of presenting the New Year’s Eve chimes on TV3. Escanes is the host of the new adventure reality show on the 3Cat platform La travessa, and Núñez, co-host of Eufòria alongside Marta Torné, is repeating after last year she participated with Mariona Escoda, winner of the first edition of the musical contest. At the last bell, TV3 remained the leader in Catalonia with 962,000 viewers and a screen share of 39.2%.
