At 5:03 p.m. this Friday, Xavi Hernández posted a farewell letter addressed to Barça fans on his Instagram account. It is a goodbye without reproaches, an elegant text in which the coach confirms that the Sánchez Pizjuán game will be his last game on the bench. Of course, Xavi assures that he will always be at the club’s disposal.
“It is never easy to leave the club of your life,” the letter begins. “But I am very proud, after two and a half years at the helm of a locker room that has been like a second family,” she says, taking stock of her 30 months. “I worked with a great group of players and an incredible staff. Thanks to all of them we have been achieving the proposed objectives, culminating last year with a League and a Super Cup.”
The coach admits that the results have not been with him this season, which ends blank. “This season things haven’t gone the way we wanted, but we’ve done our best,” he points out.
In the publication, Xavi highlights what will be the great legacy of his time. “We have helped grow a new generation of young La Masia footballers who inspire all Barcelona fans,” in reference to his commitment to Lamine Yamal, Cubarsí, Fermín, Héctor Fort and Marc Guiu, four of them at youth age.
In his farewell, the coach wanted to thank all levels, including president Joan Laporta, who gave him the opportunity in November 2021, although without explicitly mentioning his name. “Many thanks to the fans, the players, the staff, the club employees, the president, the board of directors, the sporting directors, the media and everyone who has shared the journey during these two and a half seasons.”
The coach only elaborates more in his message to the Barcelona fans. “I want to thank the fans for their support and affection, who have always been by my side and have shown me at all times the same love as during my football days,” he remembers.
Xavi leaves but makes it clear that he will always be a Barcelona fan. “Starting on Sunday I will be another culé in the stands, whether now at the Olímpic stadium or in a few months at the Nou Camp Nou. Because before being a player or coach, I am a Barcelona fan and I only want the best for the club in my life, which will always have me at its disposal,” he promises.
