One person was reportedly injured, according to unofficial sources, as a result of a collision between two trains on the Media Distancia line that connects Malaga and Seville at the El Chorro-Caminito del Rey stop, in the municipality of Álora. One of the convoys has derailed.

The accident occurred on Saturday night and required the evacuation of nearly 200 passengers traveling in the two convoys, according to the Efe agency from the emergency services that attended the scene.

As reported by a Renfe spokesperson, the incident occurred for reasons that are still unknown at around 9:30 p.m. at the same El Chorro station, at a time when there was a stopped train and another was accessing the stop in the opposite direction.

The possibility is being considered that one of the trains has partially derailed and “brushed” against the convoy on the other track.

Renfe has confirmed that all passengers, a hundred on each train, have been evacuated to the platform.

The incident occurred in a narrow passage area and the train entering the station was traveling at low speed. One of the convoys has suffered a diesel leak, according to sources from the Malaga Fire Consortium.

Renfe has reported that those affected will be transferred on another train to the María Zambrano station in Málaga, where they will be able to continue their road trip in coaches that the railway company will enable to Seville and the intermediate stops.

In addition to the Malaga Firefighters, members of the Civil Guard, Civil Protection and the Álora Local Police have traveled to the scene of the accident.

For its part, 112 is coordinating the emergency response to the accident. At the moment, 061 has sent two ambulances in case transfers are necessary and the Red Cross has sent a support ambulance until the transfer takes place.

Train circulation on this section will remain closed until the two convoys involved in the crash can be removed.
