The Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, revealed this Sunday that the collision of two trains at the El Chorro station, in Álora (Málaga), occurred because one of the drivers “skipped a stop sign.”

The minister thus confirms the information that Renfe and Adif had reported hours before, which pointed to human error as a possible cause of this train accident, which left thirteen minor injuries, three of them minors, and forced the evacuation of some 270 passengers. .

Óscar Puente has detailed the causes of the incident through the social network Juanma Moreno, expressed her concern about the railway situation in Andalusia and asked the Executive to report it in a transparent manner.

“Following Ayuso’s example is not the best. The Andalusian Public Health of your jurisdiction is what should really worry you. Yesterday two trains collided because one skipped a stop signal. The public has already been fully informed. transparency”, states the minister in his publication, in which he attaches the press release made public by Renfe and Adif about the investigation of the accident.

The accident occurred around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday at the El Chorro-Caminito del Rey station, when two Medium Distance railways covering the Malaga-Seville route and vice versa, one of them in double composition (two trains joined together), collided. sideways.

One of the trains was stopped on the platform and the other was entering the station at low speed, in a narrow passage area. The last car of one of the trains, in which there were no passengers, derailed and partially overturned.

It so happens that this Sunday a second derailment occurred, in this case without injuries, since the train was not carrying passengers, in Setenil de las Bodegas (Cádiz).

The incident took place at 06:45 hours, when a tamping machine – a work train – that was carrying out infrastructure maintenance suffered an axle dislodgement on the Antequera-Algeciras line.

In this case, the cause of the incident was the breakage of a part of the tamping machine at the time of completing the maintenance work, as indicated by Renfe and Adif, which have detailed that these actions are carried out when there is no circulation of trains or travelers.
