A delegation of institutional representatives from the Sichuan region, located in southwest China and known for being the birthplace of panda bears, visits Barcelona this week. The objective is to strengthen cultural and tourist ties. This Monday, at the Sant Pau site, they presented the attractions of that place on the planet. One of them is full of light and may reach the Catalan capital.
This is the Sichuan Lantern Festival, which is one of its most traditional elements. Throughout its history, it has traveled in international editions to territories such as France and the United Kingdom. The initiative has never been carried out in Spain and now negotiations are underway for it to arrive in Barcelona next year.
Sources from the Chinese negotiations assured that the talks are already “very advanced.” In fact, they are thinking about three specific locations: Sant Pau, Montjuïc and Poble Espanyol. It is not closed “100%,” these sources qualified.
During the event, Hu Aimin, acting consul general of China in Barcelona, ??encouraged “joint work to promote relations between China and Spain, especially in Catalonia.” Gabriel Jené, president of Barcelona Oberta, defended the attractions of the Catalan capital to host the festival. “Barcelona is an ideal place to hold our celebration,” concluded You Mei, from the Sichuan cultural industry investment group.
