The Government of Badalona (Barcelonès Nord) has taken the first step towards the construction of a sports complex with a new 50-meter municipal swimming pool in the space of the former FOCUS factory, on the lot comprised by the streets Molí de la Torre, Jaume Footbridge and the C-31 motorway. This first step has been the award to an external company of the contract for the drafting of the process advisory study.

The awarded works will include the study of the potential demand for the sports center with the objective of specifying and reviewing the sizing of the equipment; the adaptation of the draft draft to ensure that it meets current needs; the schedule and planning; the economic estimate of the investment and the drafting of the specific technical specifications (PPTP). This document will govern the bidding for the architectural services contract for the drafting of the basic and executive project for the construction of the sports complex.

The Badalona Sports Equipment Plan identifies a deficit of covered swimming pools in the city, especially a 50-meter pool. From the area of ??Treasury and Finance, Internal Resources, Education, Sports and Citizen Security, the project is presented as a response to the growing interest in healthy habits of physical activity and sports and to social and public interest.

Being able to have new sports equipment with these characteristics has also been a demand from several groups, including the Badalona Swimming Club, as well as a demand that has been expressed in motions with the support of a large majority in the Municipal Plenary.

The mayor of Badalona, ??Xavier Garcia Albiol, has highlighted the importance of beginning the process to move the project forward. “After many years, as I promised, the new municipal swimming pool will be a reality in this term,” explained the mayor.

“Badalona needs a swimming pool in good condition, because the current situation is not reasonable, neither because of the state of the facilities that we now have in the city nor because of the equipment that should be had in a city of our size,” he stated. “With this award, the Badalona government reaffirms its commitment to improving municipal sports facilities and promoting physical and sporting activity in the city,” he added.
