The socialist group of the Valencia Provincial Council will present an amendment to the 2024 budget of the provincial institution so that the amount allocated to the University of Valencia-Estudi General is maintained in full. The PP and Ens Uneix government, which needs Vox’s votes to approve the accounts, has cut aid to the institution run by Mavi Mestre by 215,000 euros.
In the last year under the socialist presidency in the Provincial Council, the academic institution received a total of 330,000 euros for training and research activities, but the current government has reduced them by 215,000 euros, so the final budget of the nominative item destined for the University of Valencia remains at 115,000.
The spokesperson for the PSPV in the Valencia Provincial Council, Carlos Fernández Bielsa, recalls that the Universitat de València (Estudi General) has been signing a collaboration agreement with the Valencia Provincial Council for several years. This agreement includes activities, plans and projects that aim to transfer knowledge and initiatives that bring the university closer to the regions.
Bielsa deplores the cut that has occurred in this nominative line, one more fact that confirms the ideological turn in the institution with the most conservative budget that can be remembered in many years after the arrival of PP and Ens Uneix, which need the support of Vox .
“This is an unjustified blow to a highly respected public institution that brings knowledge to all our regions. We cannot allow this cutback on science and knowledge because it makes us weaker as a society,” says Bielsa.
The socialists demand that at least the 110,000 euros that in the initial budget were directed to the anti-abortion entities ProVida and Red Madre be allocated to the University of Valencia, a part of which has ended up at the Casa Cuna Santa Isabel, an entity involved in the past in baby theft.
“Many mayors demand specific activities from the University of Valencia taught by professors from the academic institution itself, so it would be a shame to do without, for ideological reasons, these resources that do so much good in our regions,” adds Bielsa.
Bielsa adds that the University of Valencia has been working for years and proposing activities, conferences, cycles and programs in all regions and in the majority of municipalities in the province of Valencia. The purpose of the aid is dissemination, dissemination and study of the territory and training schools are also maintained with these funds.
