The president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, assured this Tuesday that the ‘taxi on demand’ formula will also be implemented in the south and southwest of the region, with which another 80,000 people could benefit from a system that works from the year 2020 in the Sierra Norte and that allows you to travel between towns for a reduced price.
Ayuso made this announcement when he went to the headquarters of the Madrid Auto-Taxi Guild Association to congratulate these professionals on Christmas.
In her speech, the president highlighted that the professionalism of Madrid taxi drivers is famous throughout the world and they are the “first impression” that visitors receive when they come to the region.
In addition, he announced that the so-called ‘taxi on demand’ will be expanded to the south and southwest of the region, which will benefit 80,000 people. This system allows beneficiaries to move between towns near their own for a reduced rate, which is subsidized by the regional government.
He recalled that the ‘taxi on demand’ has been operating since 2020 in 30 municipalities in the north of the region, where it serves 24,000 citizens. The system will immediately be expanded to 40 towns with 27 taxis, which will facilitate mobility in these areas.
At the same time, Ayuso referred to the fact that with “dialogue” the regional government is willing to continue improving taxi regulations in Madrid, as he highlighted that has already been done with the regulation of the sector approved this year.
“We are not closed to anything,” said the president, something she assured after the representative of the Madrid Auto-Taxi Guild Association called for negotiating “new challenges,” such as all the municipalities in the region belonging to a “ only unified area.”
For taxi drivers, this common area would prevent the traveler from having to “think about which town they are in to order a taxi” and that the professionals would not be forced to “memorize the almost 50 municipalities, their geographical limits and their municipal perimeters” to have taking into account where it circulates.
