The project is especially important because it will allow the release of five municipal buildings, totaling 5,600 square meters, which will be used to make nearly seventy public housing units, and another 1,500 square meters that can be converted into commercial premises on the ground floor. These are numbers 7, 15 and 32 on Avinyó street, number 3 on Ciutat street and number 14 on Paradís street. In addition, the Security, Prevention and Coexistence Management, which is now located in the building on Carles Pi i Sunyer Square, will also move to the new offices on Laietana Street. A part of this space will be transferred to CatSalut to build the new CAP Gòtic.

The works that are now beginning will involve an investment of 8.86 million euros and have an expected duration of 15 months. Action will be taken globally on the three upper floors, which is where the new municipal offices will be located, as well as partially in the semi-basement and basement. Specific actions will also be carried out in the structure of the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th floors and some common spaces will be adapted, such as the entrances, lobbies and the roof, among others.

Once this phase is completed, the spaces will be given uses and content will be given to the offices, a project that is being drafted in parallel and will also involve about 12 months of additional work. Thus, the forecast is that the transfer of municipal personnel can be carried out in mid-2026. At first there will be 220 people, although the objective is that the rest of the municipally owned plants will progressively be rehabilitated and produce more transfers. , up to a total of 700 municipal workers.

The installation of the new municipal offices in the middle of Via Laietana is part of a broader set of actions by the City Council to revitalize the city center, and is part of the current process of transformation of the area.
