Countdown to the Chimes. One of the most special moments of the year, in which everyone gathers in front of the television to watch the broadcast of the last seconds of the year. Anne Igartiburu was the protagonist of those moments on La1 until 2021, and she returned with Ibai Llanos to Puerta del Sol in 2022. This year will be, for the first time in 20 years, when we will not see her ring the Chimes.
A very different New Year’s Eve for the Basque presenter, who just a few days ago did not know what to do after more than two decades presenting the Chimes. “I have given the Chimes for twenty years and it has been great,” admitted the presenter to ¡Hola! magazine. “In the past I already thought: “Some year it has to happen.” But it came about with Ibai, which was a highlight and a gift of life.”
The presenter does not close the door on returning to Puerta del Sol for another year: “If they proposed it to me, I would do it. You always feel like it.” Now, she knows perfectly well who she wouldn’t partner with: Bertín Osborne.
The presenter has been one of the undisputed protagonists of this year, so he would be one of the most obvious options as host of one of the most special moments of the year. However, it would not be with Anne Igartiburu as a partner, that she would refuse to get involved with him. Of course, he has his reasons.
Bertín himself also refused to present the Chimes. He confessed it on his program, El show de Bertín, where he made it clear during the The Third Degree section when asked if he and the presenter could be the ideal faces for December 31st, no. “Not with me, with me it would be a catastrophe,” the singer responded bluntly.
Right after, Anne Igartiburu was the one who explained the reasons for not presenting the Chimes with Bertín Osborne. “I’ll tell you why it would be a catastrophe, friend. Because you and I have done events in which you go out like this: ‘Hello, how are you? Good afternoon, welcome to the event, I don’t know what.’ And he said: ‘ Very good.’ And I: ‘Bertín, continue.’ And he: ‘Ah, no, you continue.’ Because the script… There is no script,” said the Basque woman, laughing.
Osborne tried to excuse himself, without much success, since it is well known that the presenter is incapable of following a list to the letter, something totally essential for the Chimes.
“When I want to do it at home, I always do it the other way around. I don’t understand those noises, the blows that hit. It hasn’t started and I’m already on my fourth grape,” confessed the singer, while Anne Igartiburu accused him of “everything doesn’t matter to him,” although he applauded the fact that, on top of that, everything turned out well for him.
She is not the only one who refuses to work with Bertín Osborne precisely because of this. A few months ago, the singer revealed in La Roca that Ana Obregón had years ago put a clause in her contract with TVE in which she refused to coincide or work with the singer, precisely because of their differences when it came to working.
“Anita is a metronome, she learns the entire script, and I arrived and it was total chaos and she went crazy, and I think she said she never wanted to work with me again.”
