121 projects have been analyzed by the jury among those presented to the international competition called to choose the future design of the Alicante Congress Center. Next Monday, April 22, the winner will be announced.

The experts designated to choose the best project yesterday began final deliberations to choose the winning proposal, as well as the rest of those who will be awarded. The ruling will be announced in a public event to open envelopes to which all interested parties have been summoned electronically.

After several months in which the documentation presented by the 121 candidates has been studied by the jury, made up of architects of recognized national and international prestige, and after several telematic meetings, yesterday and today they met in person to maintain the debate final and agree on the ruling.

Yesterday morning they visited the port of Alicante to see the place where the future congress center will be built, on the platform located between docks 9 and A, in front of dock 7. During the rest of the day, the jury met in the Exhibition Hall of the Provincial Palace to study the 726 panels (plans, elevations, sections, perspectives, architectural and urban details…) and 121 reports of the preliminary projects presented.

The president of the Provincial Council, Toni Pérez, the entity that promoted the competition, explained that “we are entering the final stretch to meet the winning project of the competition for the construction of the Alicante congress palace, which is called to be a milestone of architecture. of the city and another flagship of this provincial institution.”

Pérez highlighted “the great work done by the judges given the large volume of projects presented.” There were 136 in total, of which 121 were finally admitted, which forced, at the time, to extend the deadline for the study of the proposals and the deliberations, which are scheduled to conclude today with another round of meetings in the Provincial Council.

The decision with the name of the winning project and the rest of the winners – second and third prize and two second prizes – will be announced on Monday, April 22 at 12:30 p.m. at the Provincial Palace with a public ceremony to open envelopes of administrative documentation which contains the data that will identify the winning authors, since the projects have been presented with a motto and anonymously.

All interested parties have been summoned to open envelopes through the State Contracting Platform and it can be followed by videoconference through Zoom.

The first prize, which will correspond to the initiative that will ultimately become the project chosen for execution, is endowed with 108,900 euros, the second with 72,600 euros; the third with 48,400 euros and two second prizes of 18,150 euros each.

The future Alicante Congress Center, built on an area of ??26,000 square meters, of which 18,000 will correspond to the building, will have an auditorium with capacity for 2,000 people, another for 500 and a conference room for 300 attendees, as well as a parking that can fit about 300 vehicles. Likewise, it will have an exhibition area, offices, multipurpose room and press room.
