The action of a young man in Rianxo, A Coruña, prevented an octogenarian driver from drowning in the sea on Saturday. The event took place around seven in the afternoon, when a car fell into the water, probably due to the driver’s inattention. In a matter of seconds, a witness, named Lorenzo Torres, jumped into the water to rescue the man, according to Galicia’s 112.

At 7:20 p.m., the Boiro Firefighters reported the event to Emerxencias and indicated that they had gone to the Rianxo dock at the request of an individual who had seen a car fall into the sea.

The young man rescued the driver in distress so quickly that when the firefighters arrived the man was already out of the water, unharmed and accompanied by his family. It was the firefighters themselves who communicated the details of what happened to emergency managers. “When you hear that today’s young people are worthless, remember what this guy, Lorenzo Torres, did,” Rianxo Civil Protection wrote on its Facebook page.

The rescue was facilitated by the fact that the vehicle remained afloat for some time, although it moved several meters from the Setefogas dock, from where it fell, according to El Correo Gallego.

According to some witnesses, the young man’s quick intervention prevented the driver from being dragged to the bottom of the sea inside his vehicle, according to La Voz de Galicia, which adds that at the time of the accident the water level was two meters. and a half. The Local Police officers present indicated that the car was submerged but that they would wait for the tide to go out before removing it.

Members of the Rianxo Civil Protection Volunteer Group also attended the scene. And from 112 Galicia, the Rescue and Coast Guard Service personnel of Galicia were informed of the events.
