Pau Brunet is a boy born in Girona just 11 years ago. He suffers from autism, and a YouTube channel was opened to tell in an entertaining way what the characteristics of the type of illness he suffers are, being supervised by his parents and his therapists, with almost 2,000 subscribers. The radio program “Herrera en COPE” interviewed him on Friday.

The young man highlighted one of the biggest problems he has: his hearing, since, according to him, he hears “five times louder”: “Being autistic is a life condition. You will only have some little problems or good things to continue with your life. For example, I listen five times louder. It can be overwhelming.”

The man from Girona also took advantage of the interviews to explain what stereotypes are, and how they affect him in his normal life: “I have one called flutter. It’s a little loud and if I do it in front of the microphone it can be painful for some people “I give high fives in some way and in the end I regulate myself. They don’t change over time and each autistic person has their own stereotype.”

In addition to the stereotypes, Pau commented on what happens to his body when eating: “I don’t notice my own body, I have to make movements to notice myself. I don’t notice that I’m full. I can eat and eat, and sometimes I vomit “.

Brunet talked about how his memory works, saying that his working memory is not very exercised. What this implies for the child is that “I can’t remember something 10 seconds ago, but I can remember what I experienced 2 years ago.”

To conclude the interview, Pau said that he is in the process of writing a book to help explain autism to the little ones: “Imagine a world full of apples. Some are sour, others are sweeter. Well, I am a pear. Continue being a fruit, but it is sweeter and has a different shape.
