The Primary Care centers of the Valencian Community have begun to administer flu and COVID-19 vaccines this morning without prior appointment, with the aim of facilitating the immunization of the population against the current rebound in respiratory viruses.

In addition, all children will be able to be vaccinated starting today in Primary Care centers with pediatric services (all health centers, except clinics).

Until last week, Health had administered 1,035,089 doses of flu vaccine, 769,425 doses against the COVID-19 virus and 25,459 against the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).

The Ministry of Health has adopted a series of special care measures in response to the rise in respiratory infections typical of this winter period.

These measures were agreed upon in the meeting held last Wednesday between the Minister of Health, Marciano Gómez, director of the Office of Socio-Health Coordination and Integration of the Valencian Community, Manuel Escolano, and representatives of the general directorates of Hospital Care and Economic Management, Contracting and Infrastructure.

Among these measures is the adjustment of the programming of surgical activity in order to generate spaces to meet demand, and depending on the context of each hospital center, for greater efficiency of existing resources, as well as the reinforcement of templates.

Other measures are to enhance home care services and establish the highest level of collaboration with the Department of Social Services, Equality and Housing, promoting home hospitalization in nursing homes in cases where this resource is ideal; as well as the reallocation and prioritization of social resources.

In the event that the collaboration of private resources is needed and, in order to reduce as much as possible any care tension that may arise, a public-private collaboration framework will also be sought.

Carmen Molina, one of those attending the Burjassot 2 clinic to get vaccinated, said, in statements to the media, that there are not many infections in her environment, but she has come “to prevent.” Regarding the mandatory use of masks in health centers and hospitals, he indicated that it is a good measure: “I have been wearing the mask for two weeks because it scares me. I am fine and I don’t want to hit anyone or get hit. neither do I,” he said.

Other people like Asunción have gone to the health center to get vaccinated but with an appointment. “I don’t know of any cases of virus because I don’t go out but you have to protect yourself a little because of the grandchildren who come home and that,” he assured.

For her part, the Nursing coordinator of the Burjassot health center, Dora Soriano, has indicated that for vaccination without an appointment the morning and afternoon schedule is maintained.

“We have not stopped vaccinating at any time since October. The last two weeks we had noticed that people’s attendance had decreased a little but now, again, it has increased again. Today the agenda is complete plus the additions that come without an appointment. Normally we have about 100 people in this center plus those who come without an appointment,” he explained.
