The Golden Globes left many moments to remember, even when the cameras were not recording and broadcast on television. Now, the most talked about were those in which the big stars came out of their “character” or the image that viewers have of them and surprised the public by revealing an unknown facet in them.
Such was the case of Kevin Costner, who did not hesitate to “get” into Barbie, at least for a few seconds, leaving actress America Ferrera, the protagonist of the film and with whom he presented the Golden Globe for Best Comedy Actress, speechless. musical during the gala. How, nothing less than reciting part of the feminist speech that Ferrera’s character makes in the film.
It all started when the actress made a reference to Costner’s role in The Bodyguard. “When you say, ‘Bye, Rachel.’ And then she leaves, and then you run to each other… I get chills,” Ferrera said. It was then that the actor surprised the protagonist of Barbie and everyone present with a recreation, word for word, of the speech in honor of the woman that Ferrera herself makes in Greta Gerwig’s film.
“You know, you have a scene that I really love,” Costner told his partner. “You know, ‘It’s literally impossible to be a woman. You’re so beautiful. You’re so smart… and it kills me that you don’t think you’re good enough,” the actor recited.
Stunned, Ferrera looked at the camera and asked: “Have you, Kevin Costner, memorized my monologue about Barbie’s wife?” to which Yellowstone’s protagonist answers, amused: “No.”
“It’s an important message, and it always serves to remind me of what is possible in movies,” the Oscar-winning actor and director continued. “It just reminds me that when we take our time, when we get it right, when the movie works at its best, those are the moments that are never forgotten.”
“One look, one touch, one kiss, one speech, and you’ve just had one of those moments. And all of the actors nominated tonight know very well the power of writing that they have been gifted with and that they have the opportunity to live to always,” Costner concluded.
“Wow. So you’re not going to do the rest of my monologue right now on national television?” Ferrera asked, to the laughter of those present.
Barbie started out as one of the big favorites of the night, with no less than nine nominations in total, including Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy. It also tied Cabaret for the second-most nominated film in the 81-year history of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association awards show.
