The Mossos d’Esquadra are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a father and his two children, aged 7 and 10, who this Monday afternoon appeared at the man’s home in the Horta district of Barcelona. The mother was the one who raised the alarm after not having heard from her ex-husband, who she was supposed to hand over the two little ones to him after the Christmas holidays. Furthermore, the children have not attended school this morning either.

Early in the afternoon, the Barcelona Firefighters, at the request of the Mossos d’Esquadra, broke down the door of the home and located the three bodies, as sources familiar with the investigation confirmed to La Vanguardia.

The home was completely sealed, with windows and doors closed and there was a strong smell of gas. The police are not ruling out any hypothesis at this time, from the accident to the possibility that the father murdered the two children and then committed suicide.

The man moved to the basement of the building years ago during the pandemic and after separating. The neighbors of the farm, some evicted from the farm after the event, have explained to La Vanguardia how it was common to see the children playing in the yard of the house and the mother coming on Sundays to look for them. In fact, one of the neighbors explained how early in the afternoon she saw the mother at the door screaming into the phone that she did not understand why no one opened the door for her and that she did not know where her children were. “In fifteen minutes the street was filled with police cars, fire engines and ambulances. I have only been able to think the worst,” added the neighbor.

The street is closed and in fact the road is occupied by almost a dozen emergency and police vehicles. At 8pm, the judicial procession was inside the house, accompanied by homicide agents and the Mossos scientific police. At the doors of the property, a couple of urban guards guarded the access to the house.
