The former president of the Generalitat Quim Torra has apologized for not achieving independence during his mandate, between 2018 and 2020. “All of us who have had responsibilities on the path to independence and have not achieved it, must apologize,” he stated. the former president this Tuesday in an interview on Catalunya Ràdio, in which he stated that “the first thing (to do) is to apologize. The second thing is to realize the strength of the independence movement, and the third thing is that the independence movement lacks credibility.”

“When you take the country to the unilateral path, you have a shot, which works or not. But you have to finish the game,” Torra assured, after regretting that the pro-independence parties have agreed to make an agreement with the Spanish Government.

“If you lead the country towards unilateralism, it is because you have ruled out any other possibility, because it is the last card, to pretend that that last card was not the last, but rather it is a card that has to be played now, even if the game fails again.” “Because there will be no referendum, it undermines confidence,” explained the Catalan lawyer after demanding a renewal of the leadership of the pro-independence parties.

Thus, Torra has attributed the lack of support from the independence movement to “the fact that the same people who led us down one path now lead the other.” “It takes away our credibility,” Torra assured, after lamenting that “during all these years we have said that negotiation was not possible, and now we forget everything.”

Regarding the amnesty, the former independence leader has clarified that, despite benefiting from the effects that the measure may have, he believes that the law does not have to be subject to the Constitution: “For me, the entire path we have followed was to get out of the constitutional cage, and anything that means returning within the Constitution, no,” Torra summarized. In this sense, the former president has recognized that the PSOE has managed the independence pressure well and has highlighted that “Mr. Pedro Sánchez is a great and has played well the cards he has found.”
